Gilbert Forest Richardson was the seventh child born to Robert and Eve Richardson. Born with club feet, Gilbert had so many operations on them during his childhood that they were reduced to mere stubs.

Once reaching adulthood, Gilbert filed for a homestead near Cutback, Montana but after a few years he borrowed money from his brother Earl and started taking art classes, developing into a very good artist. Gilbert worked as an advertising artist for Paramount Studios in Hollywood for several years, but missed the outdoors and longed for open spaces. He moved back to Montana and met two teachers, Viola and Olive. Gilbert and Viola were soon married.

Viola's father owned a chain of movie theaters and soon Gilbert soon found himself managing one of them. Gilbert and Viola had two sons, Joe and Bobby.

Viola died when the boys were still in their teens and Gilbert then married Olive, who had remained single. Olive had one of the most pleasant personalities anyone could want. They remained together until her death in the mid-1970s.

Gilbert divided his time during his later years between Los Alamos, where his son Bobby lived, and West Palm Springs, where he stayed with Olive's sister, Ann Carpender.

Gilbert Forest Richardson died in October of 1979 at Los Alamos, New Mexico.
