Lewis K. Richardson was a successful farmer and father of six children who grew up and started a family in southern Ohio before resettling to Iowa not long before the start of the American Civil War.

Lewis was born in 1828 in Gallia County, Ohio, the eldest of three children born to Elisha and Sarah Summers. Lewis' mother died when he was about 2 years old and both of his sisters also died young. Lewis' father remarried when Lewis was three and Lewis would over time become the eldest brother to a slew of step-brothers and sisters.

Lewis married Sarah Love in the summer of 1848 and began a family. In 1857 they moved to Muscatine County, Iowa and they moved again to Highland Township in Washington County, Iowa in 1868. Records show that Robert and Sarah had a total of six children throughout the years, although one family history claims there was a seventh, unnamed child.

A biographical document dating from the mid-to-late 1880s states that Lewis and Sarah were quite successful in life, calling Lewis "a most industrious man". Lewis, in turn, gives much of the credit to his wife Sarah, about whom he is quoted as having said had "been economical in all things and wise in her counsel". The Lewis Richardson family were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Lewis Richardson concidered himself to be a Democrat, though he never ran for office.

Lewis Kincade Richardson died on May 26th, 1897, in Ainsworth Township, Washington County, Iowa and is buried in the Ainsworth Cemetary with his wife Sarah.
