John Richardson
1779 - 1821

FACTS AT A GLANCE
BORN: 1779, Pennsylvania
MARRIED: Elizabeth MANRING
         17 DEC 1807
         Gallia County, Ohio
DIED: 1821
         Gallia County, Ohio

John Richardson was born in Pennslyvania, the eldest child of John Richardson and his first wife, whose maiden name was Mills. John's father moved to Virginia when he was young, eventually setting his family in Alleghany County in the mountainous, western part of the state. John moved to Gallia County, Ohio, probably not long after the turn of the century, probably in search of good farmland, something that was hard to come by in Alleghany County. Several of John's brothers and sisters also moved in and around Gallia County at this time.

John married Elizabeth Manring in 1807 and they had four children between 1808 and 1813. It is assumed, based upon information from the 1820 Census for Green township in Gallia County, that Elizabeth died sometime between 1813 and 1820.

John dies in 1821. In his will he left custody of his four children to their maternal grandfather, Jordan Manring. It is from these court documents (dated 1 AUG 1821) that we get the exact birth dates of his children.
