Billie Louise Rowley
1927 - 2009

FACTS AT A GLANCE
BORN: 08 APR 1927
          Fairview, South Dakota
MARRIED: Daren C. ENGEL
          11 MAR 1947, Eugene, Oregon
DIED: 22 DEC 2009, Bend Oregon

Billie Rowley graduated from South Eugene High School and then went on to receive training from the Univeristy of Oregon Medical School which allowed her to enter the Cadet Nursing Corps in July 1945, only a month before the end of World War II, though it is unclear how long she served or if she was ever deployed. Two years later, she married Daren Engle, a former prisoner of war held by the Japanese during World War II. Upon returning to the States, Daren remained thin and ill, his hair turning prematurely grey and prone to fevers. His health did eventually return and he and Billie entered the real estate business and did well financially. In addition to supporting their business, Billie served as secretary for the Polio Foundation and served on the board of directors for McKenzie-Willamette Hospital.

Daren and Billie retired in the mid 1980s, dividing ther time between summers in Oregon and wintering in Yuma, Arizona. In 2007 they moved to Bend, Oregon to be closer to family.
