Elizabeth Drees was only 19 years old when she sailed with Friedrich, her brother, and his family to America, arriving in New York City on March 29, 1884.

Lizzie soon attracted the attention of two brothers, Henry and Fred Haake, both of whom wished to marry her. Henry was more handsome and fun-loving whild Fred was quiet and sincere. The boys' mother told Lizzie to marry Fred, that he would make a better husband but Lizzie went with her heart and married Henry instead.

Lizzie and Henry started a family, but whatever happiness they had was shortlived. After going through a time of unspecified difficulties, Henry took his own life. Lizzie was pregnant at the time and their last child was born some months after Henry's death.

Not long thereafter, Lizzie married William Kirchoff and they had many children, in addition to raising the Haake children.

Elizabeth died in 1955, having lived to 90 years of age.
