Velma Wilhelmina Maschman was the sixth of thirteen children born to Ben and Anna Maschman. Velma married Elmer Hohensee in 1940

Velma and Elmer farmed the Hohensee farm, then owned by Elmer's mother (Elmer's father having passed away by the time Elmer and Velma were married). After a few years of that, they opened a small grocery store in Daykin called "Corner Cash Grocery". During these years the had four children.

In 1962 Velma and moved to Lincoln where Elmer worked for the Pegler Company. They were active members of Sheridan Lutheran Church. Elmer has a woodworking shop in the basement of their home, where he makes gifts and toys, many of which he gives to their children and grandchildren. Velma quits and makes other crafts. What they don't give to family and friends, they donate to local children's homes.

Velma died in 2006 at 91 years of age and is buried in Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln, Nebraska.
