Ralph Drees was born and raised on farms in and around the town of Daykin, Nebraska. In 1928 he moved with his family to nearby Fairbury. Ralph, like is brother Roy, apparently had little affection for his given name - most records from his adult life refer to him as Ralph Henry Drees.

Ralph moved to Idaho in February 1942 and married Nina Bacon a year later. They started farming near Calwell in 1944, primarily sugar beets, lettuce and corn, as well as raising beef. Ralph and Nina had two daughters and a son.

Ralph retired from farming in 1985 and lived another 15 years before passing away in 2000. Ralph is buried at Marsing-Homedale Cemetary in Marsing, Idaho.
