Doris June Drees was the third child born to Albert and Ethel Drees. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and graduated from Central High School, both in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Doris met Harold Rachow at a Walther League softball game in 1951. They married 2 years later and settled down near Hillsboro, North Dakota to a life of farming and raising a family. By their 10th Anniversary they had a total of 5 children.

The onset of a severe form of asthma forced Harold to quit farming in 1977. They rented out their land and moved into town. In 1980, Harold was elected to the Hillsboro City Commission, a position he held for the next 18 years, four of those years as President (Mayor). In addition to caring for the children, Doris also worked at the Hunter Bag Factory, the Hillsboro Beet Plant and for a local restaurant catering service.

In 1995, Harold and Doris moved out of their mobile home and into a house he inherits from his mother.

At about the same time, Doris was misdiagnosed with gall bladder problems, which the doctor recommended be corrected surgically. During the course of the operation, a golf-ball sized pancreatic cancer is discovered and the entire pancreas is removed. Following chemotherapy and radiation, she is declared cancer free - a claim few people with that form of cancer could make at that time.

Doris spends her later years working with the Lutheran Woman's Missionary League at St. Johns Church (Hillsboro), playing cards with friends at the golf course, quilting at the church, and baking for her grandchildren.

A Stage 4 tumor was discovered in Doris' lung during the summer of 2012 and she dies fifteen months later at the age of 78. Her funeral was held on Saturday, October 26th at St. John's Lutheran Church and she is buried at Riverside Cemetery, both in Hillsboro, North Dakota.
