Catherine Wilhelmine Bringewatt was the fifth child born to Frank and Anna Bringewatt, but the first to be born on American soil, one year after her parents first set foot in America. In 1891 the Bringewatt family moved to Clatonia, Nebraska. They moved again, in 1904, to Daykin.

It is not known how or when the Bringewatts met the Dreeses, but it had to have been before 1903 when Catherine's brother, Henry, married Anna Drees. Two years later Catherine, whom everyone called "Minnie", married Herman Drees (Anna Drees' brother). And finally, in 1907, Minnie's brother August married Mary Drees (a first cousin of Herman and Anna Drees who also lived near Daykin).

Herman and Minnie's first three children were born while they lived near Daykin.

Minnie was the disciplinarian of the family. In one case she burned her son Albert's fingertips in order to teach him not to play with fire. Her stern demeanor contrasted with Herman's easy-going and fun-loving temperment, though he was a hard worker too.

A tornado struck the Daykin area in the spring of 1918, destroying all the farm buildings on Herman and Minnie's land except for the house where they were sleeping. Having worked so hard to build a nice-looking farm, the destruction upset Herman greatly. The following year, Herman Drees and Henry Bringewatt traveled to the Red River valley in North Dakota and found the soil to be rich and deep. Both families moved to Grand Forks in 1920, although Minnie and Anna were not happy about moving so far away from their family and friends.

Herman and Minnie had a fourth child in 1921. Because of the age difference between this child and the other three, Caroline reportedly grew up spoiled. That same year, Minnie's mother moved into Herman and Minnie's Grand Forks home and stayed until her death in 1931.

Catherine Wilhelmine died in 1936 at age 51 of breast cancer. She is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
