George Frank Bringewatt was a couple months shy of his 19th birthday when his father died and as the oldest son he suddenly became responsible for providing for his mother and 4 younger siblings. George was the last to leave the farm; finally selling it at auction in 1978 at the age of 74.

George and his brother Albert often worked at his cousin's farm at harvest or grading and sacking potatoes during the winter for extra money.

George was an opinionated man who enjoyed a good arguement for its own sake. When Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks sold their downtown building, he became very upset because he knew how people and scrimped and saved to pay for it during the Great Depression, especially the beautiful stained glass windows - and wouldn't step foot into the new building even to attend his cousin's funeral. He just stood across the street waiting for the service to end.
